Which format should I save my wallpaper in?

 
There are many formats to choose from (gif, jpg, png, bmp, etc.) The most popular formats that are widely used on the internet are gif and jpeg. There are advantages and disadvantages to each format. GIF can only save in 256 colors, but the file size is generally smaller than saving a picture in JPEG format. JPEGs are not palettized (they can have more than 256 colors), so you will most likely want to save in this format (in fact it is recommended that you do.) The only problem with JPEGs is that they use lossy compression, so if you want to decrease the size of a JPEG, the image quality will also decrease. I suggest that when you save JPEGs you set the quality to 8 or higher. Using baseline optimized can also decrease the size of the file.
